Description
Summary:The paper is generalizing the data on the fauna of butterflies of the southernmost region of Armeni (Meghri region). The data have been collected during 15 years (1996–2010). In result of the work, the 153 species were recorded. The species belong to 7 families, 6 species are new for Armenia and 39 are new for the region. The region includes 66% of the Armenian butterfly fauna, being only 2% of the territory of Armenia. The species diversity is determined by the geographic position of the region and diversity of habitats. The later, in its turn is determined by mountainous relief and large difference in elevations. Among the recorded species, 9 species are included in Red Book of animals of Republic of Armenia. Since the “Arevik” National Park started its activities in the region, the determination of the buttefly distribution will help to conduct zoning of the National Park, which is important not only for protection of zoological, but also botanical objects
