description In Douai (France, dép. Nord), urban archeology projects have provided dozens of ceramic fragments attributable to roof finials and various other roof furniture. 36 pieces are presented, dated from the 13th to the 15th centuries, which, with some variations, are part of well-studied medieval productions of the Scheldt basin. These are architectural pieces (roof vents, ridge-tiles pedestals, globular, pinnacle shaped, or flowered finials) and statuettes with anthropomorphic and zoomorphic components: animals, riders, warriors, fabulous beings, various characters. Among them, there are two exceptional pieces, a newly discovered zytiron (sea knight) and a wild man riding a griffon, formerly known and now attributable to the Douai workshop.
