| description | This study deals with the complex linguistic identity as essay topic in Jo sóc també Catalan (2004) / Yo también soy catalana [I too am Catalan] (2004) and as narrative theme in L ́últim patriarca / The Last Patriarch (2008) by Najat El Hachmi. The native tafirit-speaker author uses the Catalan language as her linguistic instrument of transmission and creative expression. Our contribution is the sociolinguistic analysis of the treatment of immigration heritage language in Najat El Hachmi ́s essay and autofictional novel, from both the gender and the otherness perspectives. We present the author and analyze the impact of the Catalan language in her works. Our conclusion is that the author creates a “personal language” and that literary works in Catalan language can be considered a worthy documentary source in Ethnolinguistic researches on Maghrebi local dialects. |
