Description
Summary:The article is devoted to the analysis of a suicidal situation and regional patterns of completed and attempted suicides. The rates of suicidal activities in the region and its dynamics during 1997–2005 are investigated on the basis of respective medical statistics of Ivanovo city First aid ambulance stations and Ivanovo Regional Bureau of Forensic Medicine. The numerical ratio of completed and incompleted suicides is analyzed. Their multidirectional dynamics which is characterized by a decrease in the number of fatal suicides at the growing number of suicidal attempts.Changes in gender, age and behavioral structure of suicides are investigated. Tendencies towards further masculinization and rejuvenation of attempted suicides are found out there, as well as a certain radicalization of suicidal methods is recorded. In particular, the phenomenon of excessive suicidality of men is found: men are committing suicide attempts a third more often than women. Analysis of the data also shows the continuing process of rejuvenation of suicide and the trend towards further strengthening of youth oversuicidality.High level of alcoholic suicides and tendency to their feminization are found. It is proved also that process of alcoholization of suicide behavior most intensively proceeds in the youth cohorts.Interrelations between downward sloping pattern of age distribution of suicides and social economic situation in the region and low rates of its modernization is argued for. It is shown that area depression is the main source of maintenance of negative trends in the dynamics of suicides.
