description The tower model is very important for the assessment of lightning protection for transmission line. The parameters of tower model mainly rely on the impulse experiments of tower. There is a difference between the current channel of the experiments and the lightning strikes, which will result in different impulse responses of the towers. Based on FDTD method, the insulator voltage and current distribution of the tower were calculated when impulse current injected into tower along the lightning strike channel. The parameters of the equivalent model of the tower were determined which can reproduce the insulator voltage, the current flowing into the tower and the current flowing into ground wire.
