description This article retraces how the notion of parenthood has become important for professionals working in the field of social intervention, particularly in the child protection field. The article shows that the emergence and large dissemination of the notion have little to do with academic research, whatever discipline is concerned, but is mainly due to the deep transformations of this professionnal sector, particularly regarding relations between professionals and families. Ultimately, it is the work of clinical psychologists that contributed to changing professionals’ representations and encouraged them to develop actions aimed at supporting parenthood.
