description Personal networks are ensembles of people’s interpersonal relationships. All studies on networks show variations in size and composition according to social hierarchy, level of education, occupation and income. These variations can be interpreted as “relational inequalities” insofar as relationships are essential resources for many aspects of social life. which play a particularly important role for the elderly when facing the difficulties associated to aging. Based on a study of life courses and personal networks of 342 people aged sixty or older, this article evaluates the evolution of the relational inequalities according to different types of relational contents linked to the questions bearing on relationships. Beyond such variations, inequalities tend to increase with age, especially between those with less education and the others, revealing the different temporalities of “relational aging”.
