Description
Summary:This interview aims at tracing the itinerary of Syrian journalist and writer Basheer Al-Bakr in the world of the Arab press, from Beirut to Istanbul, via Paris and London, from the beginning of the 1980s until 2021. The account of his journey allows us to understand how the evolutions of the political contexts and power relations have affected the geographical locations of the Arab press outside the Arab world, as well as the media landscape. This singular itinerary is that of a journalist condemned to live in exile since his opposition to Al-Assad’s regime forbids him to return to Syria. It highlights the importance of ideological and cultural networks that affect professional orientations and recruitments, as well as some of the transformations of this media sphere over four decades.
