Qazi holds his position in Islamic State and is appointed and terminated by the Supreme Authority. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) himself occupied this position and appointed Qazis in other areas. This tradition was continued during the period of khilafah al-Rashidah and in the subsequent eras of Islamic History. This was a prominent institution during Ottoman Caliphate, which spread over a period of six centuries and twenty five years. This research article explorers and explains the significance of this institution as well as methods of appointment and termination of Qazi during this period.
