description | Adolescence is a complex period of interaction between the puberty, the neurocognitive maturity, and transition of social roles of a person.
According to the Health Statistics and Information Direction (DEIS), in Argentina, during 2019, 69.803 adolescents (from 15 to 19 years years old), and 1,938 girls under the age of 15, had a baby. These pregancies represent 11.5% of annual births in Argentina. The Perinatal Information System (SIP) indicates that 29% of adolescents had a second or third child before the age of 20. UNICEF reveals that 70% of these pregnancies are NOT INTENTIONAL. Diabetes is the most prevalent chronic pathology in pregnancy, so the increase in perinatal risk is exponential. |
