description The Französisches Etymologisches Wörterbuch is an etymological dictionary of French by the Swiss linguist Walther von Wartburg (1888-1971). This work is an immense sum of work (13,000 pages divided into 25 volumes) to which its author devoted a large part of his life. Although it is not at first sight intended for Celtic speakers, they may find it of interest, particularly from the perspective of the linguistic contacts on which the author dwells: the ancient relations between Gaulish language and Gallo-Romanic language on the one hand; on the other, the more recent relations between Breton and French.
