Summary:The present work is the result of a research on the strategic management of the Research Cen ters of the National University of Asunción (UNA). Descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted from interviews with the heads of the 17 Research Centers of UNA, includes 14 Faculties and 3 Institutes. The variables studied were: strategic objectives, goals, strategic indicators, action plan and budget for research. Of the 17 Research Centers of the UNA, 53% have defined stra tegic objectives, 35% have established strategic goals, 47% have strategic indicators, 35% have action plans assigned to each strategic objective and only 29 % has assigned a budget to execute each action plan. The obtained results indicate that, the strategic management of the Research Centers, need to enhance the aforementioned aspects to obtain better results such as being, increase the scientific production, bigger budget, better management in all the Research Centers of UNA; as well as greater institutional visibility.
