description Background. Nowadays the steppes of the Stavropol Upland and the Caucasian Mineral Waters Region have remained only in areas that were not used in human economic activity. The work was aimed at studying the steppe vegetation of the North Caucasus to further include the results obtained during the syntaxonomic survey of the vegetation in Russia and to analyze the differences between the steppe communities in Europe and Asia. Materials and methods. Vegetation investigation was carried out in May-June 2022 within the area of the Caucasian Mineral Waters Region and on the Stavropol Upland. Vegetation relevés were carried out according to standard methods. The relevés were placed to the database elaborated using the TURBOVEG package and processed in the Juice programme. The syntaxonomic survey was carried out using the J. Braun-Blanquet’s approach; the names of the new syntaxa were given in accordance with the International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature. The system of higher syntaxa was given according to the review “Vegetation of Europe …”. Results. The field studies of steppe vegetation in 2022 and the syntaxonomical survey made it possible to establish the new locations of previously established syntaxa and to reveal the two new subassociations. The communities of Teucrio chamaedris-Stipetum pulcherrimae association were recorded on the mountains Zolotoy Kurgan, Dubrovka, Yutsa, Dzhutsa, Byk, Verblyud, Mashuk, Kokurtly, Strizhament and on the cuestas of the Caucasian Mineral Waters Region. The detailed characteristic of communities of the association and the new subassociations were given. Conclusion. The studies of steppe vegetation in the North Caucasus and syntaxonomic survey carried out using the J. Braun-Blanquet’s approach enabled establishing the two new subassociations: Teucrio chamaedris-Stipetum pulcherrimae astragaletosum austriacae and Teucrio chamaedris-Stipetum pulcherrimae dianthetosum pseudoarmeriae, as well as the new locations of the previously described subassociations Teucrio chamaedris-Stipetum pulcherrimae typicum Lysenko et al. 2020 and Teucrio chamaedris-Stipetum pulcherrimae asphodelinetosum tauricae Lysenko et al. 2020. The subassociations revealed were included to the association Teucrio chamaedris-Stipetum pulcherrimae Lysenko et al. 2020, alliance Festucion valesiacae Klika 1931 nom. conserv. propos., order Festucetalia valesiacae Soó 1947, class Festuco-Brometea Br.-Bl. et Tx. ex Soó 1947.
