Straipsnyje aptariamos ekologinės etikos formavimosi aplinkybės ir motyvai bei jos vieta taikomojoje etikoje. Ekologinė etika suprantama kaip mokslinė tiriamoji ir akademinė dėstomoji disciplina, turinti savarankišką statusą ir objektą. Jos atsiradimas nulemtas didėjančio prieštaravimo tarp technologinės civilizacijos plėtros ir natūralios evoliucijos, kitaip tariant, prieštaravimo tarp technosferos ir biosferos. Šios etikos problematika iškilo ir plėtojosi humanitarinių ir gamtos mokslų sandūroje, humanizmo ir natūralizmo sąveikoje. Ekologinė etika atlieka visuomenėje svarbias funkcijas, iš kurių ypač pažymėtina "dviejų kultūrų" - tradicinės humanitarinės ir naujosios mokslinės - integracija.

Summary
The article discusses the conditions of the rise of ecological ethics and its place in the applied ethics. Ecological ethics is considered both as scientific exploratory and academically as established discipline, having independent status and object. The rise of ecological ethics was determined by increasing contradictions between the expansion of technological civilization and natural evolution, between technosphere and biosphere. The topic of this ethics was born and developed at the junction of humanities and natural sciences, in the interaction of humanism and naturalism. Ecological ethics carries out very important functions in the society, the most noteworthy of them being the integration of "two cultures" - traditional - humanitarian, and the new one - scientific.
