Description
Summary:The Appellations Françaises d'Origine Contrôlée, which have become Appellations d'Origine Protégée, divide France according to its large river valleys, areas that have historically been favorable to exporting wine. The spatial complexity and their hierarchy make the system impenetrable for the un-initiated due to a secular construction that resulted from a profound economic crisis at the beginning of the 20th century. A typology based on the value of exports reveals a steady drop in between oligopolies, the centers, the peripheries, and the margins of these appellations.
