Description
Summary:Each country has some advantages in production. A country endeavours to increase production of goods and services through its comparative advantages, and thus raises its income level by trading them. It is “Theory of Comparative Advantages” that is mainly used in International Economics for explaining the matter. Various factors among advantages that a country has in trade in services may be mentioned. For instance; the factors such as human capital, information accumulation, technological infrustructure and skills endowment are some of them. Therefore, a country can realize its production relatively cheaper by benefiting from such advantages, and it might increase its commercial share worldwide. All countries can not be successful in all sub-service sectors at the same level. Consequently, according to the Theory of Comparative Advantages, as it is in trade in goods, they should specialize only on some sub-service sectors. Thus, it will be possible to be more successful in international trade. Turkey also has some comparative advantages in trade in services. So, it is possible to determine which sub-service sectors it has comparative advantages in. When doing this, some classifications might be used. According to one of the classifications that can be used in this context, services are taken into account in two categories which are “Information based” and “Traditional”. In this article, “construction sector” as one of the “information based services” is dealt with. In context of construction sector, “architecture-engineering services, technical consultancy services and contracting services” are studied. In the article, first of all, the share of Turkey in trade in services is researched. Then, construction sector as to its sub-services is studied in details.
