Description
Summary:This article highlights the process and trends of interpreting the thematic subjects in the Moldovan figurative paintings from the early 1960s. A great interest for representing the national character of figurative painting through a specific modern interpretation was seen during that period. The plastic technique tends to harden and denote the forms arranged in large pictures with a monumental and decorative appearance. The plastic modelling is inspired from the folk art with the flavor of the structural colors of the traditional craft. The semantic content, at the same time, acquires a subjective interpretation of the themes, imprinting the works a lyrical and poetic character. The subjects’ message seeks to promote the cultural and artistic values of the national tradition. The plastic and semantic changes of the figurative painting from the early 1960s, take the entity and the national artistic character out of anonymity.
