Summary:Frequently, the construction of two of the most significant cultural heritage characteristic of Maranhão, bumbameu- boi and tambor de mina, have been related to historical and social processes domestic and local. In this work, it is noted that, at least since the late nineteenth century, the set of symbols and practices which establishes the bumba-meuboi and the tambor de mina have been translocally gestated: the circulation of ideas, objects and subjects have broken the geographical boundaries of Maranhão and Brazil, and this process has been fundamental in transforming local culture.
