description Human procreation, already subject to a process of technicization and medicalization, has also recently become the object of a process of « commodification ». The international gamete market is a good example. In order to identify the norms and values promoted by this growing business, particularly on the web, this article analyses the range of services provided by two sperm banks which are now leaders on the European market. The main results are twofold: first, the marketing discourse and the range of services strengthen the belief that personal traits are passed on naturally; secondly, they promote a logic of lower risk in which the biogenetic screening of donors and gametes appears as a kind of insurance. Therefore the « commodification » of sperm has effects on social representations of procreation and kinship.
