Description
Summary:Building peace and promoting peaceful coexistence in communities involves the recognition of serious lethal violent acts (some visible and some rendered invisible), staggering and perplexing acts that can’t even be named. In this text, a series of reflections are presented, derived from a process of psychosocial support of community leaders in Commune 4 (Aranjuez, Medellín-Colombia), on the reconstruction of a sense of community, as a precondition to build peace in community settings. The study aim is to reveal how some dynamics of violence in the city of Medellín, particularly in Commune 4 (Aranjuez), play out logics and repertoires of the violence suffered throughout the Colombian armed conflict. In this light, the focus of this reflection is not on violent phenomena and the obstacles for peace building in the community of the commune neighborhoods, but on how their social and political problems reflect a warlike mindset, shared by some citizens, which reveals one of the greatest evils of Colombian culture: the search for pacification through militaristic and warlike victories.
