description Modern romantic relationships seem to the natural basis for a long-term monogamous union, marriage and family. At the same time, "romantic feelings", "romantic love" did not always accompany marriage, and sometimes it was even a contraindication to it. Changing ideas about love in marriage, which is a complex structure that combines passion, romance, sexual exclusivity, friendship and long-term relationship, is contradictory and creates new zones of "vulnerability" and pain issues. Modern people do not just create a dyad for rational reasons; they are now responsible for their choice. Moreover, there is some kind of responsibility of being chosen. The reality of being rejected or betrayed by the romantic partner becomes more complicated and painful. The contradictory expectations placed on the combination of "romantic love" and monogamous union, create a new reality of emotional suffering, we have never have before. Psychotherapy is an applied area, with its offers how to heal "love wounds", with its own solutions. Some of them are about "fixing" and retaining the contradictory elements of modern romantic love and marriage. The other direction is to abandon the framework of monogamous unions themselves, as they support the problem. This article offers a small insight of the location of romantic love to relationship and marriage. It gives as well our view on how this reflects on the reality of psychotherapeutic approaches in issues related to the violation of dyadic intimacy and exclusivity.
