Description
Summary:Objective: To describe the mortality rate from external causes, according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), in Goiás, from 2009 to 2013. Methods:This is a descriptive temporal study (2009 to 2013) about mortality from external causes in the state of Goiás, based on from the Mortality Information System of the Ministry of Health, supported by bibliographic research. Results:Were used the variables: cyclist and motorcyclist injured in transport accident, occupant in heavy transport vehicle, intentional self-harm and aggression; Verifying gender, age, schooling, race, color, marital status and place of occurrence. Rates are significantly higher in the population of young adults, especially males. With regard to self-harm, gender discrepancy is generally attributed to increased aggressiveness, greater intention to die and use of lethal means among men. Conclusion:The great representativeness of external causes in the mortality rates shows that the number of aggressions and accidents constitutes a problem of public health in the state of Goiás and the implementation of public politics is necessary to reduce these rates.
