description Hernia is a disease as old as man himself, and throughout history, there have been several authors who have described various surgical techniques in order to solve the problem of hernia surgery. However, until now the ideal infallible technique that could prevent hernia recurrence 100% has not been found. However, there has been a reduction in the recurrence of hernia in all its forms, thanks to the use of different bioprostheses created through the development of modern technology coupled with the surgeon’s desire to create more techniques that will better prevent recurrence, as well as safer materials to the body. In this series, bioprosthesis were placed in all patients with recurrent hernias and in inguinal-femoral hernias, belonging to groups III and IV of Nyhus classification. Different bioprosthetic techniques were used in the repair work, both in the case hernias of the inguinal-femoral region, and in incisional and midline hernias (umbilical, epigastric). Antibiotic prophylaxis was used in all cases, and in some of them, antibiotic use was extended for 3 or 5 days using Cefazolin. Metaphylaxis was also used with amikacin or gentamicin, in case amikacin was not available. The results have been satisfactory, with a low rate of recurrence, and a favorable postoperative evolution, allowing the incorporation of these patients to society, with a magnificent recovery of their quality of life.
