description In this brief analysis of the relation between the hypertext and the world of the literary creation and reception, we will try to analyse some instances in which the genre of the hyper–novel, used in several occasions by many authors of 20th century literature, has anticipated a few formal characteristics of the hypertext. At the same time, we will attempt to emphasize the centrality and the continuous development of the figure of the reader and his characteristics, in light of some of the theoretical foundations of the 20th century reader-oriented literary theories.
