Description
Summary:The air of this work is to establish whether an organic corrosion inhibitor admixture (IOC) is effective for preventative maintenance against corrosion in reinforced concrete as well as in mortars for repair in corrective maintenance of structures damaged by corrosion. To carry out the study of the IOC as a preventive method, 3"; by 6"; cylindrical specimens with reinforcing steel were fabricated in concrete of different water/ cement ratios. To study the IOC in repair mortars, 23.6"; x 5.9"; x 5.9"; prisms were used. These were subjected to corrosion and later repaired with a mortar of water/cement ratio of 0.55. All the specimens were exposed to saline mist of 5% sodium chloride in a corrosion chamber. During the exposure period, electrochemical tests were carried out, measuring the potential and the corrosion rate. Finally, the absorption of chlorides was established. During the testing period it was not observed significant differences between the behavior of the samples using inhibitor and the control ones.
