Description
Summary:This paper discusses the need to develop qualitative thematic maps focused on orientation in a Web environment potentially idealized to the tourism sector. Assuming that different types of users deserve different types of maps, previous theoretical methodological and empirical studies might bring to light the real importance and effectiveness of associative maps, pictorial for the area. Considering the previous discussion, current inquiries aim at working on the creation of a cartographic project of Tourist Web-Map believing that this cartographic product can offer both a set of maps at multiple scales and in different reality abstraction levels, which do not necessarily depend on a preexisting web geoservices platform. This brings to the tourist/user three main possibilities: facilitate his/her understanding (reading of the map), thanks to the use of information redundancy resource, where the same representation is offered in different cognitives degrees (more or less associative or pictorial); offer a number of information of the appropriate destination to the process of cartographic generalization by allowing the space representation at multiple scales; may also make the product more democratically available (network access to a greater number of people), beyond the user have the possibility to customize the printing of maps according to his/her interest.
