Summary:Purpose. The theme of this article is the secret society in the Detached Сauсas corps. The purpose of it is to research, did it exist in reality. Methodology. The method of researching is studying of written sources: the materials of the case of Decembrists and the memories by the one of leaders of the South secret society S. G. Volkonsky Results. The existing of it is a disputable question in the history science. P.E. Shegolev denied existing of the secret society in the Detached Сauсas corps and regarded all information about it as a fantasy by A.I. Yakubovich. M.V. Nechkina did not assert that the secret society in the Сauсas corps really existed, but she proved, that there was a circle of well-educated and free-thinking officers in the environment of the general A.P. Ermolov, and Decembrists had hope, that the corps will take part in the insurrection. She maintained that the Investigation of this case was not finished, and explained this fact by fear the Nicolas I and his environment of the general A.P. Ermolov. O.I. Kiyanskaya is agreeing with P.E. Shegolev. The sources allow to make a conclusion, that there was no the secret society in the Сauсas corps as the formatted organization, which conducted a practical activity and could to take part in the insurrection of Decembrists, but there was nonformatted circle of well-educated and free-thinking officers in the nearest environment of the commander of the corps general A. P. Ermolov. Investigation of this case was not finished. Practical implications. The results of the study can be applied in the educational process when teaching the course of Russian history of the XIX century.
