Summary: | The main objective of this article is to make a first approach to alternative educational projects
in Biscay. Specifically, the aim is to know the main characteristics of these projects and their
current situation, identifying their obstacles or limitations, as well as their benefits and short-
comings for children and society. For this, a theoretical review on alternative educational pro-
jects has been carried out. In addition, in-depth interviews have been carried out with the agents
involved in these projects (professionals and families), to find out their opinions and reflections
on the aforementioned situation and also on the future of alternative education and public edu-
cation. Thus, once the results of both studies have been analysed and compared, reflections will
be raised regarding the main challenges of the future of alternative education and public edu-
cation.
