Description
Summary:The Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has been the biggest socioeconomic crisis in the decades worldwide. As a result, has brought a new meaning regarding the role of state in the economy, demanding immediate responses to supply and demand problems caused by the sanitary crisis in the short term. The debate related to the pandemic crisis is centered on what kind of post-pandemic recovery plans is desired and its impacts in the long term. The Green New Deal emerges in this context, strengthened in academic debate as a post-pandemic socioeconomic recovery strategy. A new political context emerged due to Joe Biden’s election and the 2021 Climate Summit. This issue challenges pre-pandemic economic and political beliefs, putting in a central position the ideas of sustainability and the role of the state. The objective of this article is to identify lessons from international experience, particularly presenting the pre-conditions to a GND deployment and its economic and political fundamentals.
