Summary: | The objective of this article is to discuss the participation of the
catholic educational militancy in the schooling process, in the
first decades of the twentieth century. Therefore, it debates the
model of teachers’ organization idealized by the founders of the
League of Catholic Teachers of São Paulo, in 1919, and the
action of teachers and Catholic intellectuals in the public
teachers training school, the prestigious by the pioneering
implementation of educational projects identified with the model
of laic education. Based on the reading of the minutes, bylaws,
reports, the production of openly Catholic intellectuals discuss
social and political issues that converged to the emergence and
insertion of this association in the teaching lay movement and in
the context of Catholic action in São Paulo.
