description Introduction: Despite the mandatory to follow CDC guideline for isolation precaution in all healthcare settings by all healthcare personnel, the pooled prevalence of HAIs in developed countries and low- and middle-income countries at any given time were found 7.6% and 15.5% respectively. Thus, the study aimed to find out perceived barriers for adherence to standard precautions among health personnel working in teaching hospital of Palpa district. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in LMCTH among 191 healthcare personnel in April 2019 after obtaining ethical clearance from IRC. Univariate and bivariate analysis were applied to find out the perceived barriers for adherence to standard precautions. Results: The average age of participants was 24.87±6.05 years. Most(85.3%) of participants were nurses. Only 19.9% and 52.4% of participants always performed hand hygiene before and after using PPEs. Culture of organization(78%), feeling uncomfortable to challenge colleagues for their non-adherence(43.5%), sometimes difficult to palpate veins for cannulation(40.3%),  procedures were taught without them sometimes(7.9%) and continued to do so(12.2%) and reluctance to wear PPEs even though located near patients (17.3%) were found major barriers for adherence to standard precautions. Ethnicity, job category and duration of employment had statistical significance with overall perceived barrier for its adherence(p<0.05). Conclusion: Culture of organization is the major barrier for adherence to standard precautions followed by uncomfortable to challenge colleagues and difficulty in palpating veins for cannulation sometimes. Ethnicity, job category and duration of employment have impact on non-adherence to standard precautions.
