Many women receive false or incomplete information on therapeutic effects and safety of hormonal contraceptives due to the lack of knowledge in doctors and unreasonable fear of adverse reactions and complications. As a result, many women refuse hormonal contraceptives. Modern hormonal contraception has many well-known benefits in terms of woman health at any age which improve the quality of life. Among them are prevention and treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), dysmenorrhea, ovulation pain, menstrual disorders, hyperandrogenism, ovarian cysts, benign breast conditions, and vegetative perimenopausal symptoms and prevention of ovarian, endometrial, and colorectal cancer.
The paper discusses methods of contraception in terms of their acceptability for women of various groups. Key requirements for oral contraceptive choice, the list of diagnostic tests before contraceptive prescription, and criteria of individual contraceptive choice considering age, body type, disorders, and preferred dosing regimen are addressed.

Keywords: hormonal contraception, acceptability criteria, personalized approach.
For citation: Olina A.A., Meteleva T.A.
