Summary:After the Covid crisis, air traffic increased, but it has once more declined in Russia since the beginning of the war. Main effects are: airspaces and airports closed, sanctions against Russia or decided by Moscow, i.e. prohibition of overflights, and of western airplanes and spare parts delivery. Russian airlines and airports are facing lot of difficulties. Among non-Russian airlines, several benefit from new competitive situation, but others are less profitable on Europe Asia and North America Asia routes. Could sanctions benefit Russian civil air manufacturing? Air transport shows its of ability to adapt, but which will be the cost?.
