Summary: | Commenting on the new objects and the perspectives opened to the anthropology of health, the author analyses the historical context of the terminology shift. The appellation « anthropology of health » is more comprehensive than medical anthropology and its focus is also different. This shift takes place in a context marked by the increasing emphasis on a global « right to health », including socio-cultural components. The author scrutinizes its consequences on the epistemological status of medical truths and the changing relationship between biomedicine and the “other” medicines, often called “alternative” or better “complementary”. |
