Im Land der Rebellen (Au pays des rebelles) is one of the fourteen titles that the UE Bookshop provides in its ‘comic book corner’. This comic book that tells, through boxes and speech bubbles, the story of a humanitarian action after a natural disaster in a war zone, is clearly designed as a communication tool for a young audience expected to be appealed by such a medium. The intention, probably laudable, of triggering empathy or even more: commitment, has some limits though. As a matter of fact, Im Land der Rebellen presents of course some characters making the identification easier but the graphic and text edulcoration of the reality of such an intervention softens a story that ends up being an enlightening tale close to an unlikely romance.
REZUMAT. În Țara Rebelilor : un roman grafic în serviciul UE? Im Land der Rebellen (În Țara Rebelilor) face parte dintre cel paisprezece titluri pe care le propune UE Bookshop în colecția sa de BD. Acest album care urmărește, sub formă de cutii și bule, o intervenție umanitară după un dezastru natural într-o zonă de conflict armat, este în mod clar conceput ca un instrument de comunicare destinat unui public, tânăr care ar trebui să fie atras sau chiar sedus de acest suport. Intenția de a genera empatie sau chiar angajament, fără îndoială lăudabilă, cunoaște totuși limite. În Țara Rebelilor propune caractere care facilitează identificarea, dar edulcorarea grafică și textuală a realităților unei astfel de intervenții netezește o narațiune care se termină într-o poveste edificatoare apropiată de o idilă oarecum credibilă.
