Description
Summary:The article considers the opposition «own/alien» in the framework of cross-cultural communication. The material of the study is a German- language novel «Die undankbare Fremde», created by writer Brezhnev, who survived the experience of migration to a foreign country and adapting to a new culture. The narrator in the novel describes his and other people’s space by means of mental and speech behaviour lines - discursive boundaries. The role of boundaries between the two cultures is the language level, the attitude to time and space. The difference in cultural and linguistic features, described in the novel, is confirmed by the theory of cultural parameters by E.T. Holl. This intersection can be carried out both at the level of the external social behavior, and on a deeper level - inner emotional «I» narrator describes the discursive boundaries using antonymous vocabulary, metaphors, pronoun deixis.
