| Summary: | Taking as reference the Grammar of Visual Design formulated by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006), we analyzed the function ofimages in the processes of scientific popularization in news report covering themes related to topics of health and environment. The research corpus is composed by ten images extracted from science popularization news published by Cincia Hoje On-line Magazine. The results suggest images function in the process of popularization of science as index, indicating through a photography one of the search topics of the research being popularized, generally the object of analysis and/or the data source.
