Summary:The use of late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging (LGE-MRI) in arrhythmia ablation is increasing due to the capacity to detect, quantify and characterize cardiac fibrosis both in atrium and ventricle. Catheter ablation has become a standard treatment for arrhythmias, and LGE-MRI has demonstrated to be a useful tool to plan and guide ablation. Furthermore, recent studies have proved the usefulness in substrate analysis and postablation evaluation. This review will analyze the application and the current role of LGE-MRI to improve strategies for the two main cardiac arrhythmias: Atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
