Description
Summary:This paper deals with the live performance of Irish traditional music in the Czech Republic. Using Bourdieu’s notion of "field" it analyses social interactions which mould the dispositions of individual musicians – determining their style of playing, the way they think about the music and the types of venues they tend to prefer. The article closes with the author´s brief deliberation on the possibility of applying the same theoretic framework to reflect his own position as a researcher of this topic, namely that of an "insider".
