Among the classics, Karl Marx (1818-1883) and Friedrich Engels (1820-1895) are regarded as the creators of the historical-dialectical materialism, which is a new way to comprehend society and consequently education. These authors highlighted the necessity to understand social relationships to discuss education and, to do so, they used a few paramount categories like: totality, historicity and praxis. Thus the aim of this paper is not to exhaust the proposed theme, but rather, raise and instigate a debate over the subject.
