description | The Latin American dictatorships in the 1960s and 1970s disrupted the growing mobilization of protest singers and composers, but were not the end of continental integration projects through the song that have been proposed since the early 1960s. The atrocities committed by the new power brokers have forced many people to leave their countries. The exiles left a painful mark, but also represented a crucial moment in the "transnational connections". They extended transnational networks with the inclusion of new poles in the systems which articulated the production and circulation of protest songs in Latin America. The purpose of this article is to show how the exile of artists designed a new map of the production and circulation of Latin American protest songs in the 1970s, taking as an example the musical production of the Chilean exile. |
