Summary:Despite the great importance that sport occupies in multiple spaces of the economical, political and cultural life in the Latin American societies, the foundation of a relatively autonomous field of studies with a specific production, can be identified in the Latin America social sciences during the last ten years. This work presents a balance of what was produced, pointing out its continuities and divergences in relation to both the continental and the European production, as well as the most important and problematic knots; and at the same time, suggesting a possible agenda, pointing out the vacancy areas or those where the Latin American analysis can be more productive.
