| description | The changes in recent years to extend life generate dilemas in daily medical practice in intensive care, the ethical analysis of medical interventions can understand and approach them. A cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study was conducted in the intensive care units of polyvalent at “Arnaldo Milián Castro” and “Celestino Hernández Robau” Clinical Surgical Hospital respectively of the Province of Villa Clara, Cuba, From January to June 2012 to describe the major ethical dilemmas related to decision making in the care of critical patients facing health professionals, the study sample was composed of 42 professionals. There was a predominance of the Licensed in Nursing, female, in the fourth decade of life, with professional experience and in these units over a decade, more than half have no religious beliefs and respect the patient's right to information and its autonomy and participation in decision making regarding therapy. The main problems were identified bioethical decision or no income, the resuscitation of the patient in terminal condition and limitation of treatment. |
