description |
The paper investigates the relationshipbetween ethnocultural diversity and political culture. The first part of the study explores the literature onethnocultural diversity as a sociologically relevantvariable, its impact on other structural variables, and the way in which ethnicity became relevant tothe study of political culture. In the second part, thesecondary analysis of data provided by a researchconducted in Romania in 2003 shows that therelationship which can be established betweenthe explored variables is highly inconsistent withrelevant studies from the international literature. The findings are in agreement, however, with thecontact theory which asserts that the exposureto diversity has a positive impact on the minoritymajorityrelations. Broadly speaking, this researchproves that ethnocultural diversity is not necessarilyconducive to an environment permeable toextremist views. Due to methodological limitations, the conclusions of the study need to be dealt withprecaution.
|
