Summary:The crises that are caused by the earthquakes happen in unexpected times. Turkey is a first-degree seismic zone regarding its geological location. Throughout history, numerous earthquakes happened and these have caused a lot of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages to the country. Therefore, there is no way except taking precautions against the crises that are caused by the rampant natural disasters. In this study, the two most massive earthquakes which took place in Turkey are evaluated. Marmara earthquake that happened in 1999, was one of the most massive earthquakes in our country. Van earthquake happened in 2011 and it was less destructive and less lives were lost in contrast with the Marmara earthquake.This study is about the attitudes of traditional and social medias during the times that the two earthquakes. The study will be dwelling upon the ways that can be benefited from traditional and social media. Traditional media is used for receiving one-way information, but social media provides dual communication area. İn this context, the comparative analysis is made by analyzing successful and unsuccessful aspects.
