Summary:Two basic approaches to forecasting the innovative development of industries: cyclic theory and theory of competitive advantages are identified and analyzed in the article. The necessity of taking into account the specific of industries in predicting their innovative development is substantiated. Basic theoretical concepts are used to predict the development of the pulp and paper industry. It is proposed classification of innovative types of companies that helps to the form the direction of innovative development.
