| description | An examination of the changing territorial boundaries of the Tarraconensis province over the long term, particularly in its western part, provides an opportunity to think about several specific problems from a common perspective. When one conceives territory as a shifting realisation of a fabric of hierarchical relationships, and not as a flat space, it is possible to offer a coherent reading of a number of issues. These include the relations between the administrative division and ecclesiastical provinces, the signs of the presence or absence of cohesion in the provincial leadership groups in the Visigothic period, and the pulverisation of the diocesan structure caused by the Muslim invasion. This article also proposes to consider some textual and archaeological dossiers as manifestations of medieval spatiality. |
