Description
Summary:What happened in the United States in the last months of 2020 and in the first month of 2021 was the climax of the crisis of American democracy. The polarization of American politics and society grew, and the bipartisan system failed in political cleavage. The pressure from various radical groups culminated in severe political violence, and social media played a negative role, encouraging hate speech, conspiracy theories, and incitement to violence. Never in the history of American democracy has an incumbent president failed to acknowledge his defeat or try to prevent the installation of a new president. Under the Trump administration, America was facing a threefold crisis: the humanitarian pandemic crisis; a severe economic crisis, as a result of the pandemic; and the social crisis. No one knows, however, what the long-term effects of the 2020 presidential election will be, and no one knows if an internally threatened democracy can withstand.
