Summary: | Brass has a much longer history than zinc. There has been a bit of
confusion about the early beginning of zinc as several claims are made out side of
India. Both literary as well as archaeological records reveal that production of pure
zinc had begun in the second half of the first millennium BC, though production on
commercial scale begun in the early Medieval times. This paper attempts to examine the
archaeological record and literary evidence to understand the actual beginning of brass
and zinc in India. |
