| Summary: | One of the most appreciated procedures for evaluation in the scientific field in Brazil, particularly in biomedicine, is the use of number of citations by a journal in the short term. Recently, while evaluating graduate programs, the field “Nutrition” at CAPES adopted citations by scientific journals over the past two years as a main reference – or the only one - to determine the value of publications of researchers working in this field, which has plenty of researchers with master’s and doctoral degrees and produces a wide range of knowledge.
For some time now, there has been a large degree of criticism to these procedures, which take specific metrics to establish who has more or less value in the Brazilian graduate system - who will receive a greater or lesser score and, consequently, more or less funds, more or less scientific capital. Various proposals are being presented by different research sectors in the pursuit of new perspectives for such assessments, because it is expected that they will be adopted with the due emphasis.
